FAQ 27: Use in a virtual server environment

Category: Initial setup | Updated: 10/08/2010 1:57 PM

DNS Redirector is supported running on a virtual machine when the machine has a mapped network card and dedicated/static IP address (no Shared networking or NAT).

You should specify a static MAC address for the virtual NIC of the virtual machine.

When running multiple instances of DNS Redirector for redundancy you increase your success over single point of failure incidents when the virtual machines exist on separate physical servers. For example, if the one physical server that hosts two virtual machines running DNS Redirector were to fail then DNS resolution would not work.
