FAQ 154: Show the number of clients on a LCD display

Category: Action functions | Updated: 10/16/2013 3:46 PM

Our LCD display can be used to show the number of clients online and authorized.

Download: JoinAction-lcddisplay.zip v1.6 r10/15/2013
When connecting the LCD to the server, extract the files to the same folder as your DNS Redirector installation
When connecting to any other computer, make a new folder and extract the files there

If you have the single color (Blue or Yellow) display...
   Run lcdsc-driver-install.exe - then plug in your LCD display
   Modify dnsredir.ini as follows:
   ActionNumber=1
   JoinAction=C:\DNSREDIR\lcdsc-update.bat
   LeaveAction=C:\DNSREDIR\lcdsc-update.bat

If you have the multi color (RGB) display...
   Run lcdmc-driver-install.exe - then plug in your LCD display
   Edit the lcdmc*.bat files with the COM port of your unit...
      Find it under Device Manager > Ports (COM & LPT) > Communications Port (COM#)
      It will probably be the highest number COM port, but if you right-click, Properties,
      Driver tab, the Driver Provider should read "DNSRedir"
   Modify dnsredir.ini as follows:
   ActionNumber=1
   JoinAction=C:\DNSREDIR\lcdmc-update.bat
   LeaveAction=C:\DNSREDIR\lcdmc-update.bat

When connecting the LCD to the server, you can optionally create a Scheduled Task to run lcd*c-startup.bat at startup.
This will show the system IP, then date and time, then CPU load, and after DNS Redirector loads, the client counts.

When connecting to any other computer you could use a Scheduled Task on that computer to run lcd*c-update.bat every 10 minutes, or
define JoinAction= and LeaveAction= on the server to run a .bat which could use psexec.exe to run lcd*c-update.bat on the remote machine.
